The Essentials Palette
Presenting the Essentials Palette—inspired by artist and civil rights champion, Emeline Steinthal. Among the first to understand the importance of art education, Emeline knew artistic sense could be cultivated in every person. Her suggested basic palette was born out of her work to provide art and handicraft instruction for even the poorest in England. These rich earthy shades provide endless combinations for a versatile palette taken straight from nature.
On our quest to bring well-crafted ideas to life, 20/20 Press teamed up with artist Jamie Gray of GreyStone Arts. Working in her Berkshire studio, Jamie hand-mills and pours small batch colors using quality earth and organic pigments enveloped in a natural binder. Free from fillers and non-toxic, clove oil acts as a preservative while perfuming the palette with its warm spicy scent.
The palette includes a natural sea sponge perfect for blending, softening, and lifting colors.
Handcrafted watercolor differs in texture and coloration from commercial counterparts. We suggest activating the colors by spraying or adding a drop or two of water a few minutes before painting. While naturally occurring cracks may appear during the drying process they don’t take away from the integrity of the paint. Enjoy the natural beauty of this historic palette that provides a powerhouse of colors with a small number of paints.
